Week 1 Journal Entry #1: 57-Year-Old Woman’s Thoughts of Becoming a Nursing Assistant

Hand and Heart nursing assistant goalEvery week in my nursing assistant online class we are required to submit 2 journal entries. We are are also required to make comments to other  students’ journal entries.

Journal Topic and Instruction:

Here’s the teacher’s instruction. . .

Reflect upon your life goals or more specifically, your goals for this class.

Here are some examples of what you can write about: what are your goals, how did you form these goals, what barriers do you anticipate, and/or what motivates you to meet your goals?

Journal Entry: My Nursing Assistant Goal and Concerns

Here’s my journal entry #1 for week 1 for my nursing assistant online class. . .

I am 57 years old. My concern of taking this class is my learning abilities. As we get older our learning capabilities are slowing down.

I have a friend who used to be a nurse. A few years ago, the hospital where she works sent her to school to further her studies to become a Nurse Practitioner.

She visited our church one time and she asked for prayers for her schooling. She said that her ability to memorize was already slowing down. She was having a hard time of memorizing.

As I study the first chapter of the text book: Nursing Assistant Care (The Basics) I have a hard time of recalling of what I just learned. I think I need to read the first chapter of this book again.

I do love learning things. But when it involves recalling things I just learned, I struggle a little bit. I also have a hard time with expressing myself. Sometimes I also struggle with speaking English.

I did glance at the contents of the textbook and I found the list with so many skills and procedures to learn.

I am wondering how could someone learn all these nursing assistant skills and procedures in 120 hours of study?! Will I be able to learn them all? This is going to be a challenge for an old woman 😉

It’s my goal to learn everything I can and be a diligent student.

I will have to do my best in studying to be a nursing assistant.

Help me, Lord….Thank you.
