• Think about why these skills are especially important for you.

Journal Entry: Proper Body Mechanics

Here’s my thoughts for my journal. . .

Since I was in high school I had learned in our health class not to bend our waist to avoid back injury.

That’s 40-some years ago and still every now and then I keep on forgetting not to bend my knees when I reach for something down from the floor. And also I had twisted my body many, many times which had brought pains in my back.

Every time I hurt my back the chiropractor makes money.

Last month I went twice for a chiropractor fix. It used to be that it only took 1 chiropractor crack to heal my back. I guess this means I am getting old, and it is going to take some time for my body to get healed.

Even though I had already experienced many back injuries, I still struggle in remembering not to bend my waist and twist my body.

Now, I am going to be a Nursing Assistant (NA), so I need to put it into practice and make it part of my daily lifestyle to use proper body mechanics.

The NA’s job also involves a lot of bending the back for moving, lifting, and transferring the patients or residents in health care facilities.

Using proper body mechanics will give us stability and keep me safe, as well as the patients or residents.
