Journal Topic and Instruction
People who have difficulty in eating they need help so that they can be fed. Otherwise, they might not be able get the nutrition that they need to maintain their health.
Our nursing assistant online class teacher wants us to journalize about nutrition.
Here’s the teacher’s instruction. . .
Think about, then write about the following example, or choose your own comments on a nutrition related topic.
You work in an assisted living facility, and one of your residents, Mr. Wayne, has severe arthritis in his hands. The arthritis makes it hard for Mr. Wayne to use his silverware, but he refuses to let you help him eat. He says that he’ll let you feed him “if and when they cut off both of my hands!”
Mr. Wayne is having more and more difficulty eating as his arthritis gets worse. Most of the food winds up beside the plate instead of in his mouth, and what little food makes it to his mouth is ice-cold by the time it gets there. You know that Mr. Wayne has to eat to maintain his health.
What are some things you can do to assist Mr. Wayne in feeding himself?
Journal Entry: Nutrition Lifestyle
I want to journalize about nutrition from eating fresh fruits or vegetables first during mealtimes.
When my husband and I were in Wildwood Lifestyle Center, we learned so many things pertaining to healthy living.
One of the things that I learned particularly in regards to nutrition is to eat fresh fruits or fresh vegetables (salad) before the main meal. I have learned that when you eat them first before the meal, your body will take care of your vitamin and mineral needs.
I have also learned that when you eat fresh foods or salad, make sure that there are at least 2 or 3 different colors of fresh food on your plate.
During mealtime in Wildwood, the very first food that you see on the table is a rainbow of colors with fresh fruits at breakfast and vegetables at lunch.
My husband told me several times before that “fresh fruits and vegetables have life and therefore they can give you a healthy life.”
Before I went to Wildwood, I had a rash on the right side of my face. I had used so many ointments and creams to treat my face, but it never got healed. It was not quite visible because it was reddish and it just blended with my rosy cheeks.
I found out after several days of eating healthy foods in Wildwood that my skin rash had started to heal. So when I got home, I continued to eat the fresh foods before my meals, and my rash was completely healed without any medication. This way of eating has also improved my bowel elimination.
The other thing that I also learned is not to eat fruits and vegetables at the same meal because the fruits need different enzymes to break down the nutrients and the vegetables need different enzymes too.
