Nursing Assistant Online Class Activities

Nursing assistant student takes online class

When I took the Nursing Assistant online class we used the Hartmann’s Nursing Assistant Care – The Basics (5th edition) for our textbook and workbook.

There were 3 options in taking the class:

1. 1 month – 4 times a week (Monday to Thursday)
2. 2 months – Twice a week (Monday and Wednesday)
3. 2 months – Twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday)

NOTE: Your nursing assistant school of choice might have a different schedule for classes.

I chose the course that would take up for about a month. The classes were 6½ hours long daily. But because of the pandemic, we never had that hours as they were scheduled. We never had online lectures as well.

We did a lot of book work: reading the textbook and doing the workbook

Nursing Assistant Online Schoolwork

Every week at home we read 2 chapters of the Hartmann’s textbook and workbook.

After every 2 chapters we had a quiz. The quiz had 100 multiple-choice questions and were done online.

Since it was an online class all of our schoolwork (research reports and workbook pages) were submitted and uploaded to the school’s site. We took pictures of our workbook pages after answering the questions.

We had watched nursing assistant videos with skills at the Hartmann’s site so that we can learn the CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) skills ahead before the laboratory session would take place.

In our online class we also did journalizing. We journalize our thoughts about our experience being as a nursing assistant student and what things did we learn.

At first I really had no idea what to write about. But one day one of our nursing assistant instructors gave us ideas what to write about. She taught us to write about what we learned day by day. She mentioned also to write about the skills that we learned.

There were also clinical scenarios and situations that were assigned to us and we had to make a post of our solution(s) on how to solve the scenario(s).

We are required to make 2 comments to 2 of our classmates’ posts of their journal and clinical scenarios.

When I started the nursing assistant online class I was so nervous and wondering what would the class be like. So now you have an idea what’s ahead of you when you take the nursing assistant course.
