Journal Instruction and Topic
The topic that we are going to write in our journal is about: “Patient’s Condition.”
Here’s the instruction from our nursing assistant online class teacher. . .
Think about, then write about any of the following, or choose your own comments on a related topic.
Have you ever known, or cared for a person with a developmental disability (see ch. 36 for a list of these), a mental illness (see ch. 37 for a list of these), cancer, or with AIDS?
Try to think of one example of a person with one of these conditions.
Write briefly about what you know about the person and his or her condition.
How does it affect his/her daily life? What treatments or services does he/she use? What are some emotional or social issues this person has faced.
If you do not know a person who meets any of the above criteria, have you read a book or seen a show about a person with one of these conditions. If so, summarize something you learned from that show or book.
Journal Entry: Patient’s Condition
Read my journal entry below. . .
After my husband got diagnosed with tongue cancer, his family sent him to Wildwood Lifestyle Center in Georgia. It’s a place where people receive natural healing to get well — and to live well.
I also wanted to go with him but it would have been expensive for the family if I went with him. But after a week my daughter was kind enough to shoulder my expenses so that I could be with her dad.
When I got to Wildwood Lifestyle Center, after making some friends, I was asked what was my husband suffering from. They thought my husband was mute because he never talked to anybody. My husband was also an introvert person. So I told them that he had a tongue cancer and it hurt his tongue when he talked.
My newly found friends told me that before I got there my husband was feeling lonely. They told me since the day I came to Wildwood, my husband’s face had lit and brightened up. His face was beaming. They could tell that he was so joyful to have me. I felt so blessed that I was with my husband.
Having this experience, I had come to a conclusion of how important it is to have a family’s presence and support for someone who is sick. It is so important that we should have also a positive spirit and outlook as we support the suffering.
